Zagreb, Croatia - A drunken soldier opened fire during a New Year's party after arguing with a love rival, killing nine people and wounding six, news reports said Saturday. The soldier then killed himself.
Vinko Palic, 27, had left the party after the argument, donned his army uniform and returned with an automatic rifle. He fired into the crowd of holiday revelers, killing nine people, including his rival, the woman whose affections he had sought and his brother.
The shootings occurred early Friday in Zrinski Topolovac, a village 40 miles northeast of the capital, Zagreb.
